Create an Org Chart from a CSV File

Generating an organizational chart from CSV data allows you to visualize reporting structures instantly using spreadsheet data.

This method is ideal for HR teams, startups, and organizations managing employee data in Excel or Google Sheets.


Required Columns

Your CSV file should include the following columns:

  • Name
  • Title
  • Manager

Optional columns:

  • Department
  • Email
  • Location

Each employee must appear on its own row.

Example format:

Name,Title,Manager
Jane Smith,CEO,
Mark Johnson,VP Sales,Jane Smith
Sara Lee,Sales Manager,Mark Johnson

The "Manager" field must match the Name field exactly for reporting relationships to render correctly.


Common Formatting Issues

  • Misspelled manager names
  • Extra spaces before or after names
  • Duplicate employee names
  • Missing top-level leader
